The people of Ugbolu Kingdom in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have renewed their passionate appeal to the Delta State Government to urgently grant the community autonomous status, insisting that Ugbolu has long met all the necessary requirements for autonomy.
Ugbolu, regarded as one of the largest and most populated communities in Oshimili North, has continued to witness rapid growth and development over the years. Stakeholders and residents maintain that the community deserves official recognition in line with its status, historical significance, and contributions to the development of the local government area.
Findings gathered from community leaders and concerned residents revealed that Ugbolu has fulfilled the conditions required for the granting of autonomy. Many observers within the traditional institution in Oshimili North are also said to acknowledge that the community is overdue for such recognition.
The community has earned a reputation as one of the most peaceful and accommodating settlements in Delta State, providing a welcoming environment for people from different ethnic backgrounds. Today, many Deltans of Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri and other tribes have built homes and lived peacefully in Ugbolu for several years, contributing to the growth and unity of the community.
Residents noted that the prevailing peace and hospitality in Ugbolu have continued to attract investors, families, and business owners, further strengthening the case for autonomy and enhanced governmental recognition.
The people of Ugbolu also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, for ongoing infrastructural projects and developmental efforts currently transforming the community.
According to community members, the ongoing projects have given Ugbolu a new face-lift and positioned the kingdom as an emerging capital territory of strategic importance within the state.
They further stressed that granting autonomy to Ugbolu during the administration of Governor Oborevwori would become a historic milestone that future generations would remember with pride.
The community therefore appealed to the Delta State Government and relevant authorities to expedite action on the matter, emphasizing that the granting of autonomy would not only strengthen traditional administration but also promote greater development, peace, and unity in the area.
For many residents, the call is not merely a political request but a legitimate aspiration rooted in fairness, growth, and recognition of Ugbolu Kingdom’s longstanding contributions to Oshimili North and Delta State at large.
