In Nigeria’s political and public service landscape, few women have left as remarkable an imprint as Dr. Ngozi Olejeme. Through her leadership in key federal agencies, unwavering advocacy for women and vulnerable groups, and commitment to grassroots development, she has built a reputation as a champion of social welfare, inclusive governance, and national development.

A defining chapter of her public service career was her stewardship of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), where she served as Chairman from 2009 to 2015. Her outstanding performance earned her a rare reappointment, reflecting the confidence reposed in her leadership and administrative abilities.

During her tenure, she spearheaded reforms aimed at strengthening workers’ welfare, promoting workplace safety, and expanding social protection programmes for vulnerable Nigerians.

Her commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery significantly enhanced the agency’s public image and operational efficiency.
Dr. Olejeme’s influence extended beyond the NSITF. She served as Board Chairman of Trustfund Pensions Plc and played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), one of the Federal Government’s major intervention programmes. She was also actively involved in initiatives linked to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), which witnessed extensive rehabilitation of federal roads across the country during the period.

These strategic positions placed her among the few women to occupy leadership roles in multiple major federal establishments. Through these platforms, she contributed significantly to programmes aimed at poverty reduction, job creation, infrastructure development, and the overall welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

One of the enduring legacies of her public service was the employment of over 7,000 Nigerian youths through various intervention programmes under her watch. The initiative provided thousands of young Nigerians with opportunities for gainful employment, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment, helping to address the growing challenge of youth unemployment.

Beyond public administration, Olejeme has remained a strong advocate for women’s participation in governance and leadership. She has consistently promoted policies and initiatives aimed at increasing women’s access to education, economic opportunities, and political representation.

Her commitment to gender inclusion has inspired many women across Nigeria to aspire to leadership positions in both public and private sectors.
Through the Ngozi Olejeme Foundation, she has extended support to widows, underprivileged women, youths, and disadvantaged communities. The foundation’s humanitarian interventions have improved livelihoods, empowered vulnerable groups, and restored hope to countless beneficiaries across Delta State and beyond.

Her political profile rose even further when she contested the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Delta State. Her campaign was anchored on poverty alleviation, quality healthcare delivery, educational advancement, job creation, infrastructure renewal, and transparent governance.
The governorship aspiration carried historic significance as she would have made history as the first female governor of Delta State.

Her message of inclusive governance resonated with diverse ethnic nationalities, women, youths, elders, and marginalized communities who viewed her candidacy as a symbol of progressive leadership and equal opportunity.
Throughout her political engagements, she consistently emphasized transparency in resource management, equitable development, and the need to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities. Her vision centered on creating opportunities for all citizens while ensuring that government remained responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.

Political observers note that Olejeme’s influence extends beyond electoral politics. Her ability to connect with grassroots supporters, traditional rulers, community leaders, women groups, and key political stakeholders has strengthened her standing within Delta State and across Nigeria.

Today, Dr. Ngozi Olejeme remains widely recognized as a public servant, philanthropist, advocate, and political leader whose contributions continue to shape conversations around social welfare, women empowerment, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

As Vice President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, she has continued to play an active role in national affairs, mobilizing support among Igbo women and championing greater political participation and inclusion. Her recent engagements have further demonstrated her commitment to fostering unity, development, and active civic participation among women and communities across the country.

For many admirers and beneficiaries of her numerous initiatives, Ngozi Olejeme’s story is one of resilience, service, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Her legacy remains a testament to the transformative power of visionary leadership, selfless service, and grassroots engagement.
