The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, has commended political parties participating in the state’s local government elections for conducting peaceful campaigns, describing the exercise as largely free of violence.
Tenebe attributed the peaceful atmosphere to what he described as the conducive security environment created by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, which he said has enhanced the safety of lives and property across the state.
In a statement issued by the Edo State APC Media Team in Benin City, the APC chairman called on eligible voters to come out in large numbers on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to exercise their civic responsibility by voting for the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates.
According to him, the election marks the first local government poll since Governor Okpebholo assumed office and presents an opportunity for Edo residents to demonstrate their support for grassroots development and good governance.
“Within one and a half years in office, the security situation in the state has improved tremendously, enabling citizens to go about their lawful activities with confidence that government has their back,” Tenebe said.
He maintained that the progress recorded in the area of security reflects the mandate given to Governor Okpebholo by the people during the last governorship election.
Tenebe further stressed that electing competent, visionary, and accountable leaders at the grassroots is essential to sustaining the state’s developmental gains and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every ward and community.
He urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and security agencies have assured residents of adequate security and pledged to ensure that Saturday’s local government election is free, fair, peaceful, and credible.
