EDHA adopts new business calendar for 2nd quarter of 8th Assembly

Edo State House of Assembly today adopted a new business calendar for the second quarter, the first session of the 8th Assembly after the Speaker Rt. Hon Blessing Agbebaku announced that the House has officially resumed plenary after a short break from legislative matters.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian applied for the House to officially adopt the new Business Calendar slated to cover 55 days of the second quarter of the annual session. According to him,

“In October, the House will be recording seventeen(17) sitting days, Twenty-two(22) in November and Sixteen(16) in December totaling Fifty-Five(55) days as in the case of the first quarter where we sat for Fifty-Five (55) days, making all the sitting days for this session which began in June one hundred and ten(110) sitting days”.

The New business calendar was thereafter adopted by members after the Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku had put the question for adoption.

Also at the plenary, the Speaker, Chief Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their solidarity during the ceremony of the conferment of a chieftaincy title on him as the Aigbodekhe -Ini of Sobe Kingdom by the traditional rulers of Sobe.

The Speaker stated this today following the personal explanation of a member representing Ikpoba Okha Constituency, Hon. Asonsere Nicolas who congratulated him on the new title and eulogized him for his sterling leadership qualities.

According to the Aigbodekhe – Ini of Sobe who expressively dedicated the chieftaincy title to his colleagues, the honor came as a result of his contribution to the growth of Sobe during his first tenure as member of the State 4th Assembly.

In another, development, the House received a letter from the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki signed by the SSG to the state government, Barrister Osarodion Ogie requesting its consideration and approval of the year 2023 reversed Edo State Budget.

The letter dated 5, October 2023 was referred to the House Standing Committee on Budget and Appropriation with the mandate to report back to the House in two weeks.

The House thereafter adjourned sittings to Tuesday 10, October 2023.
