It was a moment of Joy on Wednesday 12 June 2024 being Democracy Day in Nigeria as Management of Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited was honoured with the prestigious Education Legacy Award by Edo State Government in collaboration with Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.
The award ceremony which climaxes the 2024 Education week put together by the State Universal basic Education Board (SUBEB) served as a poignant reminder of the critical role that corporate entities play in shaping the educational landscape and underscored the power of collaboration between businesses and educational institutions.
During the ceremony, the Commissioner for Education Edo State commended the private companies and establishment for their multifaceted approach to investing in education, which includes initiatives such as scholarship programs, provision of infrastructure, mentorship opportunities, and the provision of resources to underserved schools.
She noted that the company’s innovative and inclusive strategies have not only enriched the educational experiences of countless students but have also paved the way for a brighter future for the community at large.
In his remark, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki applauded the investors for finding it worthy to invest in the educational sector in Edo State even when it is outside the scope of their business.
He noted that the Government will continue to make Edo an investment friendly state with the ease of doing business and assure them of necessary support to making sure their investment is secured.
Responding after the presentation, the Managing Director of Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited, Olivier Odoukou thanked the Edo State Government for finding RENL worthy of the award.
He noted that the recognition will future strengthen the relationship between the company and the government and also uses the opportunity to canvass for more land to develop rubber plantation in Edo State.
As the applause echoed through the hall, it was evident that the recognition bestowed upon Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited and other companies was not merely a token of appreciation but a beacon of hope and inspiration for all those who believe in the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the political class, led by to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Godwin Obaseki, Executive Governor of Edo State, Architect Namadi Sambo, Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of Kenya, Namidu Lumba, former vice president of Zambia, Mohammed Jatto, Deputy Governor Bauchi State, Real Admiral Mike Oghiadome, former Deputy Governor Edo State, Offcials from the Education, and community leaders, all of whom lauded the investors for their exemplary efforts in championing education.
