CLEEN Foundation pays advocacy visit to Edo State Commissioner of Police

CLEEN Foundation and the Civil Society Observatory Group (CSO) paid an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, CP Betty Nekpen Isoken Otimenyen, to express their gratitude and congratulate her on her appointment as the first female CP of Edo State.

Mrs. Eromon Blessing, Program Officer, CLEEN Foundation, Edo State Office, presented an update on the progress made under the MacArthur Foundation-supported Project, ‘Enhancing the Accountability of Justice Sector in the Mitigation of Corruption in Nigeria’. The project aims to reduce corruption, promote judicial transparency, and enhance accountability among practitioners in the criminal justice system in Nigeria.ยน

*Key Achievements:*

– _Trained 270 representatives_ from relevant criminal justice actors and MDAs on the implementation of the ACJA/ACJL in Nigeria
– _Conducted workshops_ on budgetary allocation, gender accountability, citizens’ engagement, and performance appraisal
– _Developed a citizens’ charter of demand_ for key stakeholders in the criminal justice administration process

Dr. Bright Oniovokukor, Chairman, Civil Society Observatory Group on ACJL Edo State, called for collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in prompt intervention before issues escalate. He also appealed for permission to interface with various stakeholders on creating awareness about the ACJL.

CP Otimenyen, in her response, expressed familiarity with CLEEN’s activities and openness to collaborative opportunities. She is the 49th CP and first female CP of Edo State.
