Asuen Ighodalo emerges Candidate of PDP in Edo State

Barr Asue Ighodalo has emerged the winner in the Edo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  primary election to fly the Party’s ticket for the governorship election scheduled to hold on the 21st of September 2024.

Barr Asue Ighodalo scored a total number of 577 votes to defeat the closest rival, Philip Shuaibu, the deputy governor who scored one vote while Hon Omosede Igbinedion stepped down from the race to support Barr Asue Ighodalo.

In her brief remarks before the voting commenced, Hon Omosede Igbinedion thanked her numerous supporters for the confidence reposed in her but pointed out that for the sake of fairness and equity that it was the turn of Edo Central to produce the next governor of Edo state and that as a result of that fact, she has decided to step down for Asue Ighodalo urging all her numerous supporters to join forces to work for Asue Ighodalo.

Announcing the results, the returning Officer for the primary, James Manager said that the total number of accredited delegates was five hundred and eighty five (585) and the total number of votes casted was five hundred and eighty five (585) with six (6) void votes

Giving the breakdown, he announced that Barr Asue Ighodalo polled a total number of 577 votes to Defeat his closest rivals, Comrade Philip Shuaibu and Hon Omosede Igbinedion who both scored one vote each

while Hon Omosede Igbinedion stepped down from the contest before the actual voting commenced while there was a total number of 6 void votes as every other contestants scored zero votes

In his acceptance speech, the winner of the primary, Barr Asue Ighodalo thanked Edo people for the confidence reposed in him, adding that for the past few weeks he had the opportunity of meeting with them in the process of canvassing for their support stressing that he would again tour round the eighteen local government councils to appreciate the kind gestures of the good people of Edo state.

” I want to use this opportunity to thank governor Godwin Obaseki for the good foundation he has laid for the development of the state and I will work tirelessly for our state and I will work with the best hands in Edo and I will give you my all’
