The Benin–Asaba Expressway Concession Company (BAECC) has said that it is aware of the heavy traffic congestion currently experienced along the Benin–Agbor axis and the Benin–Asaba Bypass corridor.

This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to the press today by Dr. Jerry Adeyeri, Head of Public Communications.

According to the statement, “We wish to clarify that construction activities are currently on a temporary pause, and no section of the expressway has been closed by BAECC. All construction equipment and machinery have been withdrawn from the carriageway to support freer movement during the holiday period.

” Preliminary assessments indicate that the congestion is largely due to exceptional seasonal traffic volume, vehicle breakdowns, and non-compliance with traffic management instructions in certain sections, which have compounded movement along the corridor.

“BAECC further appeals to all motorists and road users to exercise patience and orderliness while plying the corridor. The expressway has sufficient capacity to accommodate traffic when road users follow instructions and move in an orderly manner. Driving against traffic, forcing one-way movements, or disregarding traffic controllers only worsens congestion and puts lives at risk.

” The company urges motorists to cooperate with traffic managers and security personnel deployed along the corridor, as their presence is strictly to ensure safety and ease of movement for all.

“BAECC is working closely with traffic management and security personnel on ground to restore flow and ensure the safety of all road users, but this can only be achieved if motorists adhere to the instructions of the traffic controllers.

“The company hereby assures the public that all efforts are being made to support smoother traffic flow while construction activities remain temporarily paused.
