Conveners Of Rally For Peaceful Election Condemns Airport Shooting Attack, Call On The Nigeria Police Force To Fish Out Perpetrators

Conveners of Rally For Peaceful Election has called on the Police Force to investigate those behind the Benin Airport attack and make the findings Public before prosecution.

In a Press statement signed by the Conveners ,Dr Bright Onovokukor, Comrade Anie Umoru and Comrade Obasanmi Jude and made available to news Men in Benin City expressed great disappointment on the parties involved in violence attack which saw a Police officer shot to death.

“It is a very sad and worrisome day for all Edo People that our Politicians keep paying lip service to their welfare, when in actual sense , they don’t really care. We in the Rally for Peaceful Election totally condemned the activities that took place along Airport road, around the exit gate a few moments after the Peace Campaign was flagged off in Benin City. It was very sad and unfortunate that it was reported that a Police officer lost his life in the incident, while some other unconfirmed numbers of persons were injured”.

According to the statement, Candidates of political parties were all invited for the Peace Rally to prove that their ambitions does not worth the death of any person in Edo State, which they systematically avoided , while their thugs were seen engaging in sporadic shooting at the Airport on the same day.

Lamenting on how actions of Politicians have turned so many Children Ohpan, the statement stressed INEC should make concerted effort to invite all the Governorship Candidates and their deputies to a round table session where they will be made to sign a pact to allow Peace reign before the 21St September election or the election should be put on hold.

The Rally for Peaceful Election have earlier called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force not to be silent,or turn blind eye to any issue that may jeopardize Peace in the forthcoming election. We also called for proactive measures to promptly address escalation such that can nip issues in the bud”.

“INEC should conduct consultative sessions with stakeholders on how the Citizens can be convinced that the September 21st Governorship election would be peaceful and encourage them to participate”. It added.
