The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Mr. Festus Alenkhe has called on the Federal and State Government to issue a directive to federal and State owned tertiary institutions on the reduction of tuition fees.
The Chairman stated this during the presentation of Beacon of Hope in African Award to him at the NUJ conference hall in Benin City.
Festus Alenkhe noted that the economic hardship in the country is telling mostly on the students who are barely surviving with the high tuition fees that pay every academic calendar.
The award which was conferred on him by the Youth Coalition for Education in Nigeria (YOCEN) was Presented by the YOCEN Head of Mission, Comrade Yusuf Hassan Abdul
Speaking further, Comrade Alenkhe, commended YOCEM for finding him worthy for the honour. He said he was only doing his job as a journalist and that he did not know that his little contributions could be noticed by such a notable body as YOCEN.
He also urged the youths in the country to shun cultism in their various universities and concern themselves with the reason for being sent to school.
Comrade Yusuf Hassan Abdul pointed that the sterling contributions of Festus Alenkhe to the development of the society paved way for the recognition.
