The leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists has called on the three Political Parties in the State to ensure the security of Journalists in the scheduled Primary Election.
This was revealed in a press statement signed by the Council Chairman , Comrade Festus Alenkhe and made available to newsmen in Benin City.
According to the statement, Journalists covering the Primary Election of People Democratic Party (PDP) All Progressive Congress (APC) and Labour Party should be given adequate protection against any potential harm during the coverage.
“The appeal stems from the recognition of Journalists as the fourth estate of the realm carrying out their constitutional responsibilities”
The statement further urged all Journalists who wish to cover the primaries to reach out to the Publicity Secretary for their accreditation .
“As the voice of Journalists in the State, we believe that these precautions are essential to fostering an environment where the Press can perform their duties without fear or hindrance”.He said
