Enabulele Applauds Edo Queens’ Dominant 4–1 Victory, Urges Sustained Title Push

It was a remarkable outing for Edo Queens as they kicked off the second round of the season with a resounding 4–1 victory over Bayelsa Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Wednesday during Matchday 10 of the Nigeria Women Football League.

The emphatic win drew praise from the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, who described the performance as a strong statement of intent from the Edo-based side as the league intensifies.

In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele noted that the team’s dominant display reflected the strength and confidence of the squad, which netted four goals in the first half.

“This is a defining moment that demonstrates the determination, discipline, and fighting spirit of Edo Queens,” Enabulele stated. “

The players showed great character and tactical discipline, and it is encouraging to see them respond so positively at the start of the second round.”

Goals from Doosuur Atune in the 4th and 9th minutes, coupled with a brilliant brace from Chioma Moses in the 13th and 30th minutes, overwhelmed the defending champions and set the tone for a memorable afternoon in Benin City.

The earlier fixture this season had produced one of the most thrilling encounters of the campaign, with the “Prosperity Girls” edging a dramatic 3–2 victory. However, Edo Queens’ convincing response in this return leg underscored their determination to remain firmly in contention for a place in the Super Six.

Further reacting, Enabulele commended the players and technical crew for their commitment and urged them to maintain momentum.

“I congratulate the players, coaches, and management of Edo Queens for this impressive victory. Their dedication continues to make Edo State proud. I encourage them to remain focused, work harder, and sustain this winning mentality as they push for qualification for the Super Six,” he added.

The victory moved Edo Queens to 21 points on the league table, strengthening their campaign in the ongoing season.
Enabulele also reaffirmed the commitment of the Edo State government under the leadership of Monday Okpebholo to the growth and development of sports, noting that continued support would further motivate athletes to achieve greater success.

“Edo Queens have once again shown the beauty of football and the strength of Edo sports. We are proud of them, and we believe even greater victories lie ahead,” he concluded.

He noted that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo remains committed to safeguarding public health. He urged members to carry out their duties with integrity, ensure proper enforcement, and collaborate with relevant agencies, including the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The Commissioner expressed concern over the rising cases of kidney, cancer, and liver-related illnesses, describing the situation as alarming. He stressed that it would no longer be business as usual, announcing plans to establish a mobile court to ensure that offenders are prosecuted and appropriately sanctioned. Speaking on behalf of the co-opted members, Mr. Steven David Edjeba described the responsibility as critical, noting that it directly impacts the health and safety of the people. He warned that the prevalence of counterfeit drugs and unsafe food in markets poses a grave danger, adding that members of the taskforce are committed to working collaboratively with government agencies and stakeholders to eliminate such products and promote a healthier society. “As members of this taskforce, we must understand that the assignment before us is not ordinary. It is a mission to protect lives and safeguard public health,” he said. “Our role requires commitment, cooperation, and integrity. We must work together with relevant government agencies, market leaders, producers, and distributors to identify, eliminate, and prevent the circulation of dangerous and fake products.” Edjeba also expressed the readiness of the team to commence operations immediately, warning that those involved in such illegal activities should desist or face a crackdown. Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the health and well-being of residents. He stated that authorities would take firm action against anyone found distributing or selling counterfeit drugs and unsafe food products. In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Paul Eighemhenrio, highlighted the growing concern over chemically treated foods. He urged the taskforce members to operate with transparency and integrity in order to effectively protect public health. Other stakeholders at the event expressed support for the initiative and called for collective efforts to ensure the success of the taskforce in promoting a safer and healthier environment across Edo State. The inauguration ceremony was attended by key government officials and relevant stakeholders.
