The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has endorsed a 100-mile endurance cycling campaign by Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, describing the initiative as a major boost to sports development in Nigeria and a powerful statement on inclusion.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko,
Enabulele commended the young cyclist’s determination, noting that his attempt to set a Guinness World Record as the youngest rider to complete the distance transcends sport and serves as a platform to advance autism awareness nationwide.
The chairman observed that the cyclist’s passage through Edo State on Tuesday, March 24, during his journey from Enugu to Lagos, adds symbolic significance to activities marking World Autism Awareness Day.
He emphasized that Edo State’s support for the initiative aligns with its broader policy focus on youth empowerment and social inclusion, highlighting the athlete’s maternal ties to the state as an added connection.
“Kanyeyachukwu’s journey represents courage and a call for greater acceptance of persons on the autism spectrum. Edo State stands firmly with this cause and will continue to support advocacy through sports,” Enabulele said.
He further highlighted the cyclist’s global recognition as an autistic artist and Guinness World Record holder for the largest art canvas, describing his achievements as clear evidence of the potential that can flourish with the right support.
Enabulele reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to promoting youth excellence and nurturing creative talent, while wishing the cyclist a safe and successful completion of the endurance ride.
Dignitaries at the event, including Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole; Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Chris Okaeben; and Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, also commended the initiative, describing it as a symbol of resilience and possibility for young Nigerians.
