The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshoimhole has extolled Governor Monday Okpebholo’s one year performance ahead of the administration anniversary..

The Health Commissioner who addressed Newsmen in his office in Benin City stated that the Governor commissioning 61 Primary Health Care Centers along with other projects across the three Senatorial Districts to mark the one year anniversary is record-breaking-.

Speaking further, he attributed the recent victory attained by Edo State School of Nursing Students at the South South Nursing school exams competition to Okpebholo valuable impacts in the state health sector.

“Recently, the house Committee on Health from the National Assembly paid a visit to us and I took them to some of our Primary Health Care Centers and they were highly impressed with the facilities and equipment”. He said.

” As you are aware, the Central Hospital was moved from its original site to a very small space by the past administration. The place that was originally built for Sickle Cell Patients was converted to accommodate Central Hospital. Obviously, it was congested and the governor through this ministry has decongested the place by moving some of the departments to Oredo Health Care Center that was launched recently”

Dr. Cyrill further stressed that due to Governor Okpebholo’s good relationship with resident doctors, Edo did not participate in the ongoing national strike.

According to him, the governor has launched drug and food nutrition agency basically to commence drug production in the state. ” This will increase local drug production and crash prizes of drugs in the State. ”

“What the governor is doing in the health sector is in line with his campaign promises to provide affordable and accessible health care for the people , we have free malaria treatment in our government hospitals and I can tell you that the people have access to our facilities and services.”

He however appealed to Edo People who are using the Specialist Hospital to remain calm as efforts are being geared towards completion of Stella Obansanjo hospital to decongest the hospital.

He stressed that reason why patients are experiencing delay services is due to the influx of patients from UBTH to Specialist Hospital as the doctors are doing excellently well to meet up with their duties.

” When UBTH was shut down, all the patients were redirected to Specialist Hospital, of course, that is the reason they are experiencing slight delay in rendering of services”.

He added that Edo People should support Monday Okpebholo infrastructural and human capital development drive to make Edo shine in the comity of States.
