The Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Sherrif Oborevwori has task Association of Community Newspaper Publishers to continue to collaborate with the State Government in disseminating government policies to the people.
Recalling the partnership he enjoyed as former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, before and after the general election, he implored publishers to sustain the cordial relationship that had already been built over time.
Governor Sherrif stated this while receiving the State Executive of ACNPN led by Comrade Jude Obiemenyego in the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.
He noted that the place of Community Newspaper Publishers in the development of the State can not be over emphasized as they are key stakeholders that can mar or build the State with their various channel of Communication.
He further stressed that for publishers to remain as the unbiased umpires, they should abide by the ethics of Journalism in carrying out their duties.
“I want Community Publishers to speak to the Conscience of Deltans by promoting the existing Peace .love and Unity we have enjoyed as a People, yes, we have worked together before and I assure you, that we will provide leadership to Deltans”.
“By Thursday, we shall be commissioning series of projects that has been completed by this administration and we shall be marking our 100 days in office, we have also set up a Committee that will handle the distribution of Palliatives that will cut across the Senatorial Districts to the Local Government up to the wards”
He added that his administration is responsive to the plight of Deltans as a result have set up a Committee to handle the impending flood..
Speaking earlier, The State Chairman of ACNPN , Comrade Jude Obeimenyego commended the Governor for recognizing the partnership between the Association and the State Government and assured him that as Patron of the Association, Publishers are ready to sustain the collaboration to scale up the development of the State.
Comrade Jude further appreciated the Governor for the appointment of the former Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Hon. Ehiedu Charles Aniagwu who was recently appointed as Commissioner of Works for Rural Development and also the appointment of the Chief Press Secretary, Chief Festus Ahon and described them as capable hands that has the capacity and strategy to drive the process with the Governor.
He charged the Governor to provide quality and purposeful leadership in achieving the M.O.R.E Agenda in his administration.
“I am appealing to His Excellency sir, that Publishers should be included to those who will benefit from the palliatives that will be distributed any moment from now.”
“ I am also using this opportunity to plead with the Governor to appoint one of the Community Publishers as an SA to the Governor on Community Newspaper as that will deepen the relationship that we have built over the years “
