GREEN Light Advocacy Team Takes Campaign Of Build Rehabilitation Centers, Stop Indiscriminate Action Against Drug Users To NDLEA

The Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,(NDLEA) Edo State, Mr. Buba Wkawa has revealed that one of the cardinal duty of the Agency is to rehabilitate drug abusers who voluntarily seek help to stay away from drugs.

Mr. Buwa stated this while addressing the Executive Director of Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youths Infinitive ,Mr. Edwin Asibor and his team who were on a courtesy visit in his office in Benin City.

Commending the team for their immense partnership in advocating for non discrimination and rehabilitation of drug abusers in the State, Mr. Buwa stressed that the action of Greenlight Advocacy Project is in tandem with one of their objective to rehabilitate drug abusers and ensure they get necessary support to return back to their normal lives.

“Basically, our search light is on drug traffickers and producers within the state and beyond and if drug users voluntarily seek our help, we have rehabilitation centers for them where we can help provide the necessary support to help them get back to their normal lives again”.

According to the Commander , the door of the Agency will be opened for collaboration with Greenlight Advocacy Project and would provide the necessary support to enable it achieve the aim of non discrimination and rehabilitation of drug users in the state as one of the ways of reducing drug users in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director of Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youths Initiative , Mr Edwin Asibor lamented on the frightening increase of drug abusers and in a bid to reduce the scourge, revealed that his organization embarked on a research which revealed that incriminating drug abusers have not helped to reduce the number of drug users.

According to Edwin, Greenlight Advocacy Project have proffer other ways drug abusers could reduce in numbers such as shunning indiscriminate actions against drug users and advocating for rehabilitation centers where they can access counseling and medical attention to enable them turn to their normal lives again.

He pointed that only such measures could drug abusers change and become Ambassadors respectively.

He however added that collaborating with the NDLEA will enable Greenlight Advocacy Project achieve its goal in reducing numbers of drug users in the State.

High point of the event was the presentation of the Agency souvenirs to the Greenlight Advocacy Team.
