Ibiwe Residents jubilate over BEDC reconnection

BEDC Electricity Plc, inline with its policy in maintaining a peaceful co- existence with its host communities, has recently reconnected Ibiwe Community in Oredo Local Government Area of the state to its Disco’s network after several months of power outage.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin by the Head, Branding and Corporate communications of the company, Mrs Evelyn Gbiwen.

According to the statement, Ibiwe Community which has been out of power supply for months sequel to indebtedness to BEDC, heaved a sigh of relief as they were reconnected to the Disco’s grid.

Speaking on behalf of BEDC on the restoration of supply, the Head, Special Project and Community Engagement, Mr Curtis Nwadei recalled that the community was disconnected months ago upon failure to pay their electricity bills, running into millions of Naira , but after a joint meeting at BEDC’s instance with Ibiwe Community on the way forward to resolve the indebtedness, a sum of 10million was paid to defray their 

outstanding.

According to Nwadei, we had several Engagement with the community and was encouraged by their commitment to support and resolve the issue which led to the replacement of an old Transformer to a new 500KVA 11/0.45, Transformer.” He stressed.

Nwadei went on to say that, it was his pleasure to say that the community was coming back again to BEDC network, even as it understood the yearnings of the community.

The special project manager said , the restoration of electricity to the community was a demonstration of Bedc’s Commitment to providing quality electricity to customers in its franchise states of Edo Delta Ondo and EKiti.

The Head, Community Engagement continued by saying that, inview of the latest development in reconnecting the community, they should desist from acts of economic sabotage, meter bypass, vandalism, assault on staff and other vices that negates their agreement 

He however enjoined the community to pay their bills regularly, promptly and as well take ownership of BEDC’s installations in the community.

Nwadei promised to engage the community regularly to deepen their relationship in serving Ibiwe Community better.

Expressing their appreciation to BEDC, the stake holders in the community led by Dr Angell Osa Oke, the Ogevbo of Ibiwe, expressed delight in BEDC reconnecting the community adding that the prolonged outage affected many economic activities and many businesses in the area.

Dr Osa Oke assured BEDC of their willingness to pay their electricity bills and to provide an atmosphere needed to enable staff of the be Company perform their legitimate function in the community.
