The Elders of Obayantor 1 Community in Ikpoba Oha local government area, Edo State have appealed to Edo State Government to come to their aids to rehabilitate Edo Primary School in Obayantor 1 in Ikpoba Oha Local Government area in Benin City.

Speaking to Newsmen on behalf of the Elders of Obayantor 1 shortly after a PTA meeting with the School management, Elder Godwin Aghimien decries the pitiable state of Edo Primary School with dilapidated buildings and lack of Chairs and Desks for effective learning for Pupils in the School.

Elder Godwin noted that despite Edo Primary School been founded in 1956 by United African Church (UAC), the School has received little or no attention from those who graduated from the system, Alma Matar and the State Government in the last 67 years.

According to him, Edo Primary School was built by the community and named after the first Odionwere of the Community and handed over to UAC and thereafter, the Federal Government took over the running of the School.

Speaking further Elder Aghimien states that part of the reasons why Parents have withdrawn their pupils is because the School is not fenced which poses security threats to the pupils and their handlers.

On the issue of the crisis that led to most Obayantor residents leaving the Community, Elder Aghimein stressed that the Elders in Council in collaboration with Security operatives are working tirelessly to usher in peace and security to the Community.

He however called on Parents of Pupils in Edo Primary School to bring back their wards for school activities as they are making frantic efforts to ensure adequate security and Peace is restored back to the Community

He, however, enjoined the State Government to support the Community by building a secondary School in the community that would enabled Pupils who graduate from Edo Primary School to continue their Education in the Community instead of going to other communities to seek for formal Education.

Lamenting further, he noted that the present Chairs and Desk in Edo Primary School is 51 years old , thereby, he heavily appeal for the supply of new Chairs, Desks, writing materials and reading manuals

Elder Godwin also noted that the Community is ready to provide land for the establishment of the new Secondary School as he further appealed that Edo Primary School should be given a facelift to create an enabling and conducive environment for the pupils.
