Excitement filled the air as the Benin Correctional Centre in Benin City hosted the 4th edition of the Yellow Ribbon Edutainment Rehabilitative Therapy program, tagged “Inmate Got Talent,” on December 30, 2024. This innovative program, organized by Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youths Initiative, aimed to appreciate the inmates’ creative abilities and accelerate their rehabilitation.
The event was attended by notable officers including DCC Idowu Emoakhemen officer in charge of the centre, , Mr. Sulaiman Aminu, the state PRO and other officers, as well as partner organizations like office of the public defender OPD)and Greater Returniee Foundation. Mr. Edwin Asibor, the Convener and Executive Director, emphasized that the program’s purpose is to holistically reach out to the inmates, appreciate their talents, and support their personal and societal development.
The PRO in his Goodwill thanked the organisers for the initiative in that the positive impact of the Program on the students
The program featured live counseling sessions, entertainment, and competitions in dance, music, and comedy. Prizes were awarded to the top 10 participants, as well as to four nominated officers, Mr. Ikeji Macko and Mrs. Iduozee Anthony, who were voted by the inmates, while the organisers nominated DCC Paul Ogbue and Mr Aminu Sulaiman the state welfare and PRO of the State command respectively for the pivotal role in sustaining the programme
The event concluded with a closing remark by Mr. Benjamin Imose the Welfare officer of the facility , who appreciated the organizers and requested consistency in the program.
