Following the recent mob killing of some suspected travelers in Uromi, the Civil Society Observatory Group (CSO) has called for complete implementation of Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) in Edo State.
The CSO group which was established by CLEEN Foundation under the MacArthur Foundation project made this known in a press statement signed by the Chairman , Dr. Bright Oniovokukor and others condemning the mob attack that got some travelers burnt to ashes under the guise of being suspected kidnappers.
The statement stressed that jungle justice is not the solution to insecurity in Edo Central , rather security operatives should take necessary actions to curb the menace ravaging the region.
It further called on security agencies and relevant stakeholders to convene a meeting where actions should be taken to fish out perpetrators and allow Justice to prevail to avoid further breakdown of law and order.
“The trend of jungle justice is alarming , fueled by factors like poverty, unemployment, lack of trust in the Justice system, Youth Frustration, corruption and poor governance. We therefor condemn jungle justice due to the detrimental effect”.
“Jungle Justice is a menace the ACJL aims to address and abolish through transparent and smooth implementation”.
