The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has commended Team Edo for its outstanding performance at the ongoing 3rd National Para Games in Abuja.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele described the team’s medal haul as a reflection of the resilience, discipline, and competitive spirit that define Edo athletes on the national stage.
He singled out Para Table Tennis for special praise, where Ivie Edogiawerie Peculiar delivered a remarkable performance, clinching two gold medals in the Women’s Open Singles and Class 10 events. Blessing Aiwekhoe also impressed, winning gold in the Class 5 Women’s Singles and the Mixed Doubles alongside Olowe. Ada Okungbowa secured bronze in the Men’s Singles Class 5, while Kazeem Adejunye added another bronze in the Men’s Class 4 category.
In Para Cycling, Favour Ojieabu stood out with two gold medals and one silver, while Samuel Okojie contributed a gold medal to the tally. Cynthia Wanogho further strengthened the team’s performance in Para Powerlifting, winning gold in the 50kg division.
Enabulele also acknowledged additional medal successes recorded in Para Powerlifting and Para Taekwondo, noting that they have significantly boosted Edo’s overall standing.
Expressing confidence in the team’s momentum, he urged the athletes to remain focused and disciplined as the competition reaches its climax.
“Following our triumph at the 2nd edition of the Niger Delta Games, this performance at the National Para Games further reinforces Edo State’s position as a powerhouse of sports in Nigeria,” he said.
Team Edo had earlier fielded a 47-man contingent competing in 10 sports, including Para Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Cycling, Canoeing, Karate, Powerlifting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wheelchair Tennis.
Events are being held at two venues — Jabi Lake for Canoeing, and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for other sports.
Edo State has now climbed to second place on the medals table with 19 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Enugu State leads with 36 gold medals, while Rivers and Bayelsa states occupy third and fourth positions respectively.
Enabulele reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to sustained investment in athlete development and competitive excellence at both national and international levels.
The competition is scheduled to conclude on Friday, April 3, 2026.
