Team Edo has returned from the 3rd National Para Games in Abuja to a rousing استقبال, following a remarkable third-place finish that has earned widespread praise from the Edo State Sports Commission.

In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, lauded the para-athletes for their resilience, discipline, and determination.
He described their performance as a bold statement, particularly as they competed with one of the smallest contingents at the tournament.
Speaking at a reception held in their honour on Thursday, Enabulele commended the athletes for making the state proud and assured them of increased support moving forward.
“On behalf of the Commission, I warmly welcome you back and commend your outstanding efforts. Securing third place with a relatively small team is no small feat,” he said.
“We are committed to expanding participation in future competitions while improving welfare and recognition for all para-athletes.”
He also praised the team’s exemplary conduct throughout the games, noting the absence of disciplinary issues. He urged the athletes to sustain their focus and momentum as they prepare for the upcoming National Sports Festival slated for later this year in Enugu.
As part of immediate recognition, Enabulele announced a cash reward of ₦50,000 for each gold medalist.
Representing the Chairman, Frank Ilaboya, Executive Director for Edo North, endorsed the reward initiative and further contributed a personal donation in support of the athletes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Commission, A. P. Efe Amenze, who led the delegation to Abuja, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. She noted that the podium finish reflected the athletes’ grit and determination despite their limited numbers.
Team Edo concluded the competition with an impressive haul of 51 medals, comprising 25 gold, 14 silver, and 12 bronze.
Enugu State topped the medal table with 40 gold medals, along with eight silver and seven bronze, while Bayelsa State secured second place with a total of 89 medals, including 25 gold.
Other states in the top ten included Rivers State, Lagos State, Abia State, Plateau State, Osun State, Adamawa State, and Kwara State.
The Edo State Sports Commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening para-sports development and sustaining the state’s competitive edge in national sporting events.
