At a recent thanksgiving service in Ekpoma, a would-be senator under the broom platform stood before an attentive congregation and, without flinching, confessed he was not given to “too much articulation of thoughts and ideas.” The moment, which should have been one of inspiration and vision, turned instead into disbelief. Parishioners and observers exchanged stunned glances, not just because of what was said, but because they understood — perhaps more than the speaker himself — that the office of a senator is not a ceremonial title or a retirement lounge for political patrons. It is a robust legislative platform where the capacity to articulate, to reason, to debate and defend the interest of one’s constituents is not optional; it is the job.
The Nigerian Senate is not for the faint-hearted. It is a place of intellectual rigour, strategic thinking, and tireless advocacy. That is why the recent trend of aspirants who shy away from public reasoning or have no grasp of policy issues but still seek to occupy seats in the hallowed chambers of the Senate should deeply concern us all. If one cannot defend ideas or articulate vision at a local church gathering, how then can one defend the future of a people on the floor of the National Assembly?
Fortunately, for the good people of Edo Central Senatorial District, there is a breath of fresh air — a candidate who doesn’t just want the office, but understands the weight of its responsibility. That man is Distinguished Honourable Paul Omo Okojie, the Labour Party’s candidate for the August 16, 2025, Senatorial election.
Paul Omo Okojie is not your typical politician. He does not thrive on political theatrics or empty slogans. His public service philosophy is grounded in storytelling — not just the ability to speak, but the deeper responsibility to tell the story of his people. And to tell it so well, with such clarity and courage, that it moves policy, draws federal attention, and secures lasting development for his district.
A seasoned journalist by training and experience, Honourable Okojie knows the power of words, but even more, he understands the responsibility that comes with wielding them. His years in the newsroom sharpened his sense of accountability, equipped him with research-based decision-making, and exposed him to the complexities of governance. Unlike career politicians who stumble through debates or avoid hard questions, Okojie thrives in conversations that matter. He listens to his people, not to posture, but to represent.
Beyond the newsroom, he ventured into the private sector, where he built a reputation for integrity and excellence. This dual experience — in the media and in business — gives him a unique edge. He understands both the plight of the common man and the mechanisms of economic growth. He knows how to connect the stories of his people to policies that will bring employment, infrastructure, and opportunity to Edo Central.
Importantly, Honourable Paul Omo Okojie is not running to warm a seat. He is running to work — to push for resource allocation that favours Edo Central, to legislate with vision, to attract federal projects, and to ensure that our district no longer lags behind in national development. His candidacy is not built on personal ambition but on collective aspiration. He believes Edo Central can be more — and he is ready to articulate that belief before the nation.
With Honourable Okojie in the Senate, Edo Central can expect a representative who will not be silent when the issues that matter most to us are being debated. From youth employment and education to road infrastructure and agricultural investment, he has the presence, the clarity, and the passion to ensure that our voices are not only heard but respected.
As the elections draw near, the people of Edo Central must ask themselves one important question: Do we want a senator who struggles to speak, or one who is ready to speak for us? Do we want symbolism or substance? A titleholder or a true legislator?
The answer is clear. The moment is ripe. Honourable Paul Omo Okojie is the man Edo Central needs. He is the man Edo Central can trust.
Come August 16, 2025, let us cast our votes for competence, for courage, and for clarity. Let us elect the man who is ready to tell our story and fight for our future.
Let us elect Honourable Paul Omo Okojie — the voice Edo Central deserves.
