This initiative is part of the activities to celebrate the 2026 World Oral Health Day, themed “A happy mouth is a happy life.”organised by the Nigerian Dental Association in collaboration with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital

In an interview, Dr. Nneka Chumwumah, Coordinator of the Dental Centre at UBTH, commenting on the exercise, expressed optimism over the massive turnout of patients since the program’s inception.

Dr. Nneka explained that the ongoing 50% discount on selected dental treatments aims to improve oral health in the community by making dental care more affordable and accessible.

She stated that over 100 patients have already received various dental procedures at a reduced cost.

Dr. Chumwumah commended the hospital management for their vision in prioritizing the oral health of Nigerians through this discount on dental care.

Several patients who preferred to remain anonymous expressed their gratitude to the UBTH management, led by Chief Medical Director Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, for the initiative.

According to them, the 50% discount has significantly reduced the financial burden of dental treatments, making it possible for more people to access essential oral healthcare services.

According to the CMD, the discounted treatments will be available from March 16th to 19th at the UBTH Dental Centre on essential procedures such as scaling and polishing, extractions, GIC restorations, and radiographs.
