Traders at New Benin Market in Benin City have been sensitised on the “Know Your Rights” campaign, the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL), and the use of the Iyobor App for reporting human rights violations.
The awareness campaign, organised by CLEEN Foundation, and supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme. RoLAC II is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).aimed at educating traders on their rights, the provisions of the ACJL, and available channels for seeking redress in cases of rights violations.
During the exercise, traders expressed excitement over the introduction of the Iyobor App, describing it as a convenient platform that would enable them to quickly report incidents of human rights abuses and other grievances for prompt attention by relevant authorities.
Several traders commended CLEEN Foundation for bringing the sensitisation programme to the market, noting that the initiative had broadened their understanding of fundamental human rights and the need to speak up against violations.
Volunteers of the foundation assisted many participants in downloading and navigating the Iyobor App on their mobile phones, while others who could not immediately install the application promised to do so at home.
The foundation urged members of the public to make use of the app and other available channels to report human rights abuses, stressing that increased public awareness and active citizen participation are crucial to promoting justice, accountability, and respect for human rights in society.
