The Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGOS) has strongly condemned the abduction of school children and their teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the recent incident as a grave violation of the rights, safety, and dignity of learners and educators.
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Dr. Bartholomew Okoudo, FCS, PPL, the organization described the abduction as “barbaric, inhuman, and wicked act” that undermines the fundamental right of every child to access education in a safe and secure environment.
CONGOS expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity affecting educational institutions across the country, noting that schools should remain sanctuaries of learning, growth, and development, free from fear, violence, and criminal activities.
“We are deeply saddened and outraged by this reprehensible act.
“The trauma inflicted on these innocent children, their teachers, families, and indeed the entire nation cannot be overstated,” the statement read.
“Schools must remain sanctuaries of learning and growth, free from fear, violence, and criminal intrusion.”
The organization further called on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, and all relevant security agencies to immediately mobilize every available resource and intelligence mechanism to secure the unconditional release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
According to CONGOS, no effort should be spared in ensuring the victims regain their freedom and in restoring public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
The coalition further urged authorities to implement urgent and sustainable measures to strengthen security around schools nationwide.
” It emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance, effective community policing, and robust early warning systems to prevent future attacks on educational institutions.”
“This unfortunate incident must serve as a wake-up call. We urge security agencies to strengthen surveillance, community policing, and early warning systems around schools to prevent a recurrence of such heinous crimes,” the statement added.
CONGOS also extended its heartfelt sympathy to the affected pupils, teachers, and their families, assuring them of its solidarity during this difficult period.
The organization expressed hope for the victims’ swift and safe return and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the protection of children and the security of educational institutions across Nigeria.
