Following a letter of ‘Unreserved apology” from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State and a letter of commitment to replace all the items belonging of journalists in the state that were damaged when they were attacked on February 17, 2024 during the inconlusive APC primary elections, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has suspended its planned boycott of the party’s activities.

This is to allow the party to replace the damaged items on or before March 16, 2024, in line with the commitment the party made to the union

The decision to suspend the boycott was taken at a “Special a Congress” of the union held on Tuesday at the union’s Press Centre in Benin City.

With this development, the Chairman of the union, Comrade Festus Alenkhe who read the communique advised journalists in the state to resume coverage of APC activities.

Recall that after the attack, the union called an emergency congress where a 7-day ultimatum was given to the party to apologise to the union, offset the medical bills of Journalists who sustained injuries during the attack and as well replace all the items belonging to journalists that were damaged/missing.
