Hon. Uzamere inspects Upper Ekenwan, other roads, drainages in Benin City

The Hon. Commissioner for Road and bridges, Hon. Ethan Uzamere has began an inspection tour of major roads under construction in Benin metropolis .

As part of the Commissioner’s plan to ensure quality jobs are done on the roads under construction, said the Governor is very much interested in solving the issue of flooding as the rain approaches.

Accompanied by his team of Engineers from the Ministry of Works , he proceeded to Upper Ekenwan road where he was briefed by the project Manager and also carried out physical assessment of the level of work done so far.

Speaking, he assured residents of Upper Ekenwan road that the Ministry is pushing the Contractor to work beyond their schedules to ensure the roads are completed by October this year.

He said the first phase of the 1.5killometer road construction in Upper Ekenwan will span through to Ekenwan barracks.

The Commissioner who also inspected other roads , Catchpits and underground drainages under construction by Levant Construction in Ninteen street in Ugbowo, expressed satisfaction on the quality of Job done.

He assured residents of the area a flood free road as the raining season draws closer.

Speaking with Newsmen after the tour on the major roads, Hon. Uzamere revealed that the Governor who is finishing strong has directed that in solving flood challenges in the State, strategic Catchpits and underground drinages be sited in flood prone areas to channel the flood to the river.

Hon. Uzamere who expressed satisfaction on the quality of work being carried out on the roads and adjourning drinages revealed that the drinages and Catchpits being sited in Ninteen street and environs will help control the flood during raining season

, Hon. Uzamere noted that succor has finally come to residents of Ninteen street.

He further said that the area which has suffered from acute flooding during raining season will experience flood free roads this year.

“So far, we are satisfied with the quality of work being carried out on upper Ekenwan road, Ninteen street and others and I believe strongly, these roads will be completed this year”.

Also Speaking, a Consultant to Ministry of Works, Engineer Patrick Ehizojie noted that the 16.1kilometer road construction in upper Ekenwan is near completion and would be completed before the ending of this year.

The team further proceeded to Mechanic road where two side drinages which is about 2.5meter deep are currently being sited alongside the road construction.

Speaking with the representatives of the Contractor, Engineer Linus Osaghale said once the road is completed , Mechanic road linking to Uwelu will no longer experience flooding.

At Upper Mission extension by Tambogal, heavy road construction with side drinages as deep as 600mm, 700mm, 1000mm and 1,200mm is being carried out to be completed before the end of the year.

Other construction sites within Benin metropolis visited includes Adesuwa in New Benin, osamudiamen, Osazuwa, okundia and omo-ojide Streets respectively in GRA , omomo Street at stadium road.
