Commendation of Governor Monday Okpebholo for the Provision of 50 CNG Buses to Edo State, the Sustenance of Leadership at Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), and Request for Expanded Responsibilities for the Managing Director
Your Excellency,
I write to sincerely commend your timely response to the plight of ordinary Edo people through the approval and arrival of 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses aimed at revitalizing the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), under the leadership of Barr. Festus Ehimuan.
The Edo Comrade Bus service has, over the years, helped to ease the transportation burden faced by residents across the state.
Your administration’s decision to strengthen the transport system further demonstrates a government that remains connected to the needs and welfare of its people.
The buses supplied to ECTS in 2012 during the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have undoubtedly served the people diligently.
However, many of the buses have become outdated and increasingly expensive to maintain.
The few still operational continue to struggle with the rising cost of diesel, spare parts, and other operational challenges,
while ordinary citizens bear the consequences through increased transportation costs.
Despite these challenges, the exemplary leadership, responsiveness, and commitment to public service demonstrated by the Managing Director of ECTS, Barr. Festus Ehimuan, have continued to restore confidence in the government-owned transport system.
Nevertheless, there remains an urgent need for more buses on the roads to meet the growing transportation demands of the people.
On Wednesday, 27th May, 2026, I boarded an ECTS bus from Ososo, my community, to Benin City. Shortly after Sobe Town, the bus developed a mechanical fault and broke down.
The driver and conductor made immediate efforts to resolve the issue, but it soon became clear that technical support was required.
As time passed, passengers became anxious. However, the driver reassured us that he had already contacted the ECTS office and that a rescue team had been dispatched. While some passengers chose to continue their journey through alternative means, I remained alongside others from my community, confident that assistance would arrive.
To further confirm the situation, I personally contacted the Managing Director.
To my surprise, he had already been briefed about the incident and assured me that a rescue and mechanic team were on their way.
He remained in active communication until the issue was resolved and the remaining passengers were properly attended to.
This level of hands-on leadership, accountability, and customer care is rare within public transportation systems. During our interaction, even the driver remarked that the current Managing Director is “the most efficient Managing Director in the history of the company.”
Your Excellency, leaders who combine competence, responsiveness, and dedication to service deserve recognition and greater institutional support.
I therefore respectfully urge your administration to entrust the Managing Director of ECTS with expanded responsibilities and the necessary operational support required to further strengthen public transportation and service delivery across Edo State.
ECTS remains a vital lifeline for citizens across the state, and under the present leadership, it has demonstrated the remarkable impact that effective management and people-oriented governance can achieve.
Thank you for your attention and for your continued commitment to the development and welfare of Edo people.
Respectfully,
Solomon Taiwo (JP)
Ward 10, Ososo,
Edo State.
