Oko Edutainment therapy hunt: Seven Inmates emerges 2022 extraordinary performers, others win prizes

30 Inmates of Oko Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service participated and showcased their God given talents in different aspect of skills such as  Comedy , Drama, News Casting,  Dance, Singing etc in an event tagged YELLOW RIBBON EDUTAINMENT THERAPY PROGRAM.

This was made known by the Public Relation Officer of Oko Correctional Service, DSC Aminu Suleiman in a press statement signed and made available to Newsmen in Benin City.

The program  which is designed to educate, enlighten, entertain and help inmates to discover  their talents saw inmates actively displaying their various skills.

According to the statement, the event  is one of several inmates reform and rehabilitation programmes of the Custodial Centre design to achieve positive self discovery in this Yuletide period.

He further stated that messages were delivered by relevant professionals  in which the inmates were educated on their rights and responsibilities, available opportunities, need to be hardworking and to be God conscious, among others.

The Controller of Corrections Edo State Command Charles Ogwude was represented by the Deputy Controller of Corrections incharge of the Custodial Centre DCC Sikiru Balogun and he appreciated the partners for their commitment and partnership. 

He informed them that the Nigerian Correctional Service places premium on humane custody and on inmates reformation and rehabilitation. He advised the inmates to continue to maximize the various available opportunities in preparing for life outside custody.

On his part, the Co-organizer and Executive Director Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youth Initiative and advocate of the Yellow Ribbon Project , Comrade Edwin Asibor  encouraged the inmates to have positive disposition about life and develop their God Given talents as life in the outside world  holds a lot of prospects for them.

According to him, great men have in one time or the other spend years in prison custody, came out and held great positions in the society.

The inmates were further motivated when a guest artist Mr. Asi Oracle who was once an inmate displayed a thrilling   performance as well as advised the inmates that they can achieve great height with obedience and hard work.

Apart from exhortations from the various partners and guests, the excited inmates  keenly contested amongst themselves in the various areas of talent display and prizes were awarded to seven (7) winners for extra ordinary performances in dance, song, comedy, rapping, etc in addition to 2 inmates that were selected as Best Behaved Inmates.

The YELLOW RIBBON EDUTAINMENT THERAPY  PROGRAM was co-hosted by the Nigerian Correctional Service, Edo State Command and *Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youth Initiative*  (NGO) as well as other partners namely Mr. Courage Asia of Courageous World Entertainment, NBA (Edo Branch) represented by Barr. Amechi Nwanzor,  Citizens Right Department of Edo State Ministry of Justice represented by Barr. Christabel Ikponwonva,  Pastor Peter Ojoru, Mr. Nosa Okundia of Greater Returnees Foundation (NGO).
