Senator Neda Imasuen on Saturday joined family members, friends and admirers to celebrate the 80th birthday of renowned cleric, Reverend Felix Ilaweagbon Omobude, describing him as a spiritual leader whose contributions to nation-building remain immeasurable.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Moshood Karim, the lawmaker representing Edo South Senatorial District said the celebrant has remained an embodiment of integrity and a beacon of hope to countless people through decades of dedicated service to God and humanity.
Omobude, a respected preacher and leader, is the General Superintendent of Gospel Light International Ministries, a ministry widely known for its evangelical outreach and humanitarian activities.
Speaking during the celebration, Imasuen conveyed the goodwill of the leadership of the Senate, noting that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, fondly recalled the cleric’s numerous spiritual outreaches in Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor.
According to the senator, Akpabio expressed gratitude to the revered cleric for his prayers and support over the years.
“I know him, and I’m always grateful for his prayerful support. I am here to convey his gratitude to you,” Imasuen said.
He added: “On behalf of the Senate President, myself and the good people of Edo South Senatorial District, I pray that God Almighty bless you even more. Happy birthday, our father in the Lord.”
The colourful event attracted several dignitaries, including Olumide Akpata, who was the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
The highlight of the celebration was the cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrant alongside family members, friends and well-wishers who gathered to honour the octogenarian cleric.
Omobude has played prominent roles in several national and international Christian organisations. He previously served as President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and was also a member of the fellowship’s National Board of Advisors.
Beyond Nigeria, the revered cleric has served as the National Representative for ICARE Inc and as a member of the Board of Elders of Faith Community Churches International in the United States.
His 80th birthday celebration was widely seen as a moment to reflect on a lifetime devoted to spiritual leadership, mentorship and service to humanity.
