The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has nominated the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, for the prestigious SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award.
The nomination was announced in a statement jointly signed by SWAN’s National President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, and Secretary-General, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, following a press briefing in Abuja.
According to the statement, the award recognises Enabulele’s outstanding contribution to sports development in Nigeria and his sustained effort in building structures that continue to produce sporting excellence in Edo State and beyond.
“The conferment is in recognition of the national pride and glory you have brought to your fatherland. Nigerian sports writers owe it to thank you for making Nigeria great through sports,” the statement read.
The SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award, established to mark the association’s 60th anniversary, celebrates Nigerians whose leadership, policies, and initiatives have advanced the growth of sports in the country.
Reacting to the nomination through his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele described the honour as “a reward for diligence, teamwork, and the collective commitment of the Edo State Sports Commission towards achieving excellence.”
He expressed deep gratitude to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to whom he dedicated the award. Enabulele said the governor’s vision and steady investment in sports had created an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.
“This recognition is not mine alone; it belongs to His Excellency, whose passion and support for sports have inspired all we do at the Commission. His leadership continues to transform the lives of our youth through sports,” Enabulele stated.
He also praised the management, staff, coaches, and athletes of the Edo State Sports Commission for their resilience and dedication, noting that their efforts have sustained Edo’s reputation as a sports powerhouse.
“Every medal won, every competition hosted, and every athlete developed is a product of shared dedication. This award is a testament to the unity and hard work driving Edo’s sports success,” he added.
Under Enabulele’s leadership, the Edo State Sports Commission has repositioned sports as a tool for youth development through grassroots programmes, partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring consistent success for Edo athletes at national and international levels.
The formal presentation of the SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award will take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday, October 31, 2025, at 1 p.m., with top dignitaries expected in attendance.
As preparations for the ceremony continue, the recognition of Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele stands as yet another testament to Edo State’s rising profile in Nigerian sports.
