The Collective Action Movement for Democratic Values and Environmental issues has called on security operatives to prosecute those arrested for vote buying during the last Edo governorship election to serve as deterrent .
In a statement signed by the National coordinator ,Ambassador Emmanuel Akuba and the Publicity Secretary, Peter Germans decried the manner electorates reduced their right to question poor leadership by selling their votes to the highest bidder.
Ambassador Akuba expressed that he his disappointed in Edo People for not showing that they are ready for the positive change they desires.
” Is two things that is holding our democracy back, Vote selling and Voters aparty . If the people can resist money and any form of inducement before and during election and vote who they believe will serve them , then, you will realize that politicians will stop doing anything possible to buy votes, rather they will be thinking of how to work for you and your children ”
“Imagine after spending so much money to buy your right to vote, you expect them, when they get to office to work for you., No, they will first settle themselves.”
Ambassador Emmanuel said that despite all the sensitization on the danger of vote selling to Nigeria democracy, so many Edo People were involved in vote selling before and during the election.
Speaking further, he described those who did not come out to vote as contributors to the rigging process in the election.
He further stated that the country is suffering today due to past actions of electorates who sell their votes to leaders who end up looting the treasury dry, leaving the people to suffer.
He added that until Nigerians wake up to their responsibilities , they should not expect any significant change in the scheme of things .
He however congratulated the Edo State Governor elect, Senator Monday Okpewholo and charged him to be magnanimous in victory and prepare to work for the betterment of Edo People.
