In commemoration of the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Lebarty Community Health Foundation has donated cartons of assorted sanitary pads to the Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), as part of efforts to support menstrual hygiene awareness among schoolgirls.
The donation, which aligns with the Foundation’s corporate social responsibility, is aimed at supporting NAWOJ’s planned school outreaches to educate young girls on proper menstrual hygiene practices.
The items were presented on behalf of the Medical Director of the Foundation, Dr. & Pharm. Nosa Aigbe Lebarty, by a delegation led by the Vice President of the Foundation, Mrs. Orion Lebarty Olaye, alongside the Communication Director, Pst. Mrs. Ovis Enahoro.
Receiving the items, the Chairperson of Edo NAWOJ, Comrade Habiba Aniekan Sam, in the company of her Vice Chairperson, Comrade Oyemwense Odeh, expressed profound appreciation to the Foundation for its sustained support over the years. She described the organization as a dependable partner in advancing the welfare of women and girls.
Speaking on the planned activities to mark the day, Comrade Habiba noted that World Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed globally on May 28, will be commemorated by the Edo Chapter through visits to selected public secondary schools across the state.
She explained that the outreach would focus on sensitizing schoolgirls on proper menstrual hygiene management, while also distributing sanitary pads to support their health, dignity, and confidence.
“This timely intervention will help reduce stigma, promote health awareness, and encourage girls to remain in school during their menstrual cycle,” she said.
Comrade Habiba further reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment as a professional body to promoting the welfare of women, amplifying their voices, and advancing gender-sensitive reporting, while contributing meaningfully to issues affecting women, children, and other vulnerable groups in society.
She thanked the Foundation for its continuous support, both past and present, and called for sustained collaboration.
