Members Of Edo NUJ Pass Vote Of Confidence On Comrade Festus Alenkhe Leadership Over Transforming Of Infrastructural Facilities At Press Center

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council has passed Vote of Confidence on the leadership of Comrade Festus Alenkhe for the Infrastructural transformation that has taken place within the Secretariat of NUJ Press Center in a short while in office.

Members of the Union Unanimously stated this after the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Festus Alenkhe briefed the Congress, efforts made by his Executive to attract a donor who has commence the fencing of NUJ Land at the Press center.

This was contained in a Communique drawn from the deliberations of the Congress held on Tuesday, June, 2023 by Eben Ebenasco as Chairman and Nwine Maureen as Secretary.

The Communique further applauded the State Government led by Godwin Obaseki for creating an enabling environment that motivated players of Bendel Insurance to win the Federation Cup after 43 years .

According to the Communique, the State Government rescheduling of work days to Three times in a week is an indication that the Governor , Godwin Obaseki feels the pain of civil servants occasioned by the subsidy removal.

Similarly, the union also hailed the Edo state government for approving the 13-Month salaries for Civil servants in the state, describing it as one of the steps that are capable of encouraging a work-friendly environment. It lauded the State Government for offering automatic employment, to first-class graduates of the state’s lineage.

While lamenting the recent impasse between Uber and Bolt, the two biggest ride-hailing service providers in Nigeria, and its drivers who have in recent times embarked on protests against the high commission rates set by the service providers, the Union, however, call on the Ridders and State Government to have a round table talk to address their plights.

Journalists in the State were however urged not to undermine the need to balance their reports to avoid unnecessary litigations, and in another breath, expressed concerns over government information hoarding, stressing the need to open its doors for Journalists to cross-check data in line with the information act.

The Congress, Unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Executives of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, NUJ, for its transformation activities, after taking an assessment of its performances for the last one and a half years of a three-year tenure.

The union believes that the war against drug abuse is Apt, calling on the Government at all levels to upgrade rehabs and hospitals with functional equipment to help drug addicts’ recovery process as well as legally tackle every act of illegal drug dealings by dealers.

The Union urged its members to continue to maintain the norms of the profession at all times to earn public trust.
